An electrifying ensemble, Samirah Evans and Her Handsome Devils delivers a swampy, sultry, and soulful take on jazz standards and originals. Jazz and Blues vocalist Samirah Evans was a highly sought after performer in New Orleans, performing as either a leader or featured vocalist at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for fourteen consecutive years. She has toured Europe, Asia, North and South America, headlining and sharing stages with legendary artists such as B.B. King, James Brown, and New Orleans Queen of Soul, Irma Thomas. Samirah has been joined in concert by notable New Orleans musicians, including trumpeter Terence Blanchard, saxophonist Charles Neville (Neville Brothers), and drummer Shannon Powell (Harry Connick, Jr. Band and Diana Krall). Following Hurricane Katrina, Samirah Evans and her husband moved from New Orleans to his native town of Brattleboro, Vermont in the fall of 2006. Samirah Evans and Her Handsome Devils, composed of pianist Miro Sprague, saxophonist Michael Zsoldos, bassist Marty Jaffe, and drummer Conor Meehan have made the Springfield Jazz Festival a part of their New England reunion tour.
